Thanksgiving

Word of the Day: Thankful

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,
but to save the world through him.
—John 3:16-17 (NIV)

The Invitation: There’s so much to be thankful for on Thanksgiving, but let’s take time to thank God for the best gift ever given, Jesus. And then, let’s ask God what He is thankful for.

Your Response: (Pray) Heavenly Father, thank you for sending Jesus to earth:

• to show me who You are
(Thank God for specific characteristics that mean a lot to you today.)

• to teach me how to live
(Thank God for new things He has recently taught you.)

• to make the way for mankind to receive eternal life
(Thank Him for your salvation and all that it means to you, or that He is drawing you to Him.)

This Thanksgiving I’m especially thankful for Jesus because:

Heavenly Father, it’s Your turn. Reveal more of Your heart to me. Today what are You thankful for? (Listen and respond to Him.)

Let everyone give all their praise and thanks to the Lord!
Here’s why—he’s better than anyone could ever imagine.
Yes, he’s always loving and kind, and his faithful love never ends.
So, go ahead—let everyone know it!
Tell the world how he broke through
and delivered you from the power of darkness
and has gathered us together from all over the world.
He has set us free to be his very own!
—Psalm 107:1-3 (The Passion Translation)

Thanksgiving Prep

X Turkey
__ Stuffing
__ Pumpkin pie
X 10 black olives for each child
X Pin the Wattle on the Turkey game

Whatever your to-do list for Thanksgiving looks like, we hope you’ve started checking things off. And no matter the size of your gathering, this is a good week to prepare your heart to be with family and friends. For family are the friends chosen for us, and we are refined and matured as we love them well. Remember, it only takes one person partnering with God—and a few turkey jokes—to shift the atmosphere around a dinner table.

If you’re up to the challenge, the Recipe for a Great Thanksgiving Dinner is here again. This year we’ve added an Express Edition for those who love the idea, but know the “from scratch” recipe will overwhelm them. You can print your favorite and keep it handy for the holiday season. Give it a try. Who knows? It might be the best Thanksgiving ever.

Suddenly, the glory
of the God of Israel
appeared from the east.
The sound of his coming was like
the roar of rushing waters,
and the whole landscape
shone with his glory.
